The Poorly Educated

November 10, 2016 Blind Gossip

huh-1[Blind Gossip] This female multi-hyphenate is one of those entertainers who is reeling from the fact that Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the Presidential election. However, her disdain for those who voted for him is a little bit humorous.

She was ranting about how ridiculous and unfair it is that all these uneducated people [meaning the Trump voter] should decide who the next President is going to be. The funny thing is that I happen to know that she never even graduated from high school!

Perhaps the memory of her own lack of formal education was frozen during a Botox session?

Not sure about the multi-hyphenate. Could be so many since they usually start young. Not graduating doesn’t necessarily equate to dumb.

If you need counseling after your candidate loses, you shouldn’t get to vote. Period.

The funniest thing is that HRC won the popular vote. Or it would be funny if Trump wasn’t the winner. We need to fix the broken electoral college system. US voters did not elect Trump. The electoral college did.

I don’t think it’s necessarily hypocritical for the person to say that.

Perhaps they mean uneducated voter in the sense that they are uneducated about the candidates, their policies, what they stand for, and a fundamental lack of understanding for critical topics that are taken seriously by Clinton (and all scientists) and shrugged off by Trump , who can’t be that stupid, but knows what side of his bread is buttered to get elected.

There are really too many who fit the clues. They think because they entertain us, we should revere their opinions. We don’t have their platform, so they delude themselves into thinking they represent what we think. I’ve lived through enough elections to know that I will only agree with the results half of the time and the pendulum always swings the opposite way every 8 to 12 years. To the disappointed: suck it up, and move forward.

Cher’s face is frozen from Botox, and referring to a “memory” of her lack of education suggests that this is an older person, perhaps.

I hate replying about politics, but respectfully, “not collecting assistance” isn’t very fair and kind of classist . Welfare doesn’t equate “lazy”. My dad, like lots of boomers, had very specific education and was downsized at 50. His career doesn’t exist anymore. He’s collecting assistance while actively looking for a job but not many employers hire 50yo men. In your book he wouldn’t be allowed to vote although he’s a victim of a govt that incited people to study in these now…

      November 11, 2016 at 11:38 am

As a fellow Canadian I thought the same thing – no ID to vote? But John Oliver actually did a piece on it and because the US system can differ so much from state to state it can be next to impossible for some people to have access to getting government ID. John showed areas in the US where you literally have to travel hours, and they are open 1 day every couple months – when you barely have money to get by how do you get there? By requiring ID you would be punishing people for being poor.

    • tforce7878 says

      November 11, 2016 at 1:56 pm

      @jennycee

No offense to John Oliver, but he is not a U.S. Citizen. He is a legal resident (“green card” status). He cannot vote. He can have all the opinions he wants, but many states have said they will issue FREE ID cards for this exact reason. Nobody with any sense would want to take away a citizen’s right to vote or “punish” them! Asking for ID is not a way to disenfranchise voters, it is a reasonable request to cut out any possibility (some say its remote, some don’t) of voter…

Second, it’s just a few decades since you had to be 21 to vote. Now that we know the frontal lobe of the brain, which controls judgment, isn’t fully formed until the mid-to-late 20s, we should raise the age minimum back to 21 at the very least, 25 ideally. High school diploma might be nice, but usually the issues these people run on don’t require an education to understand, but it might help to understand ballot measures. And the current trend seems to be against intellectual, educated people in favor of electing the stupid, so there’s that…

Optional: I wish there was a way to fairly determine if people were educated about what they were voting on. Too many people don’t do their research and then we end up with something like proposition 57 in California; violent felons will now be up for early parole.
As an aside, can we stop with the name calling based on who someone voted for? Just because you chose to vote one way, that doesn’t make the other side dumb, uneducated, racist, sexist, wrong, etc…

Unfortunately it’s not a misunderstanding or a typo. We only classify I believe 23 crimes as being violent felonies. The way the proposition was written, if it’s not one of those 23 felonies, people can be up for parole early. That includes people convicted of rape and sexual assault, assault with a deadly weapon, human trafficking and plenty others. We passed prop 47 that led to the reclassification and early release of non violent criminals (drug offenses, burglary, theft) and crime rates…

Criteria to Vote: Legal citizens WITH government ID. Also… you must pay taxes and not collect government assistance. Some feel welfare comes from the “government” but it comes from TAXPAYERS. You should be required to financially support our country to get a vote in how it’s run. Those who pay should get to choose who makes the decisions.

Actually people who receive assistance do file and pay taxes. And their assistance has witholding just like a paycheck. Also assistance is not permanent so how would you distinguish between periods of work or periods of disability? And most people who are on assistance live in rural areas. My background is in finance and a personal banker so i had to see under the hood of many people’s financial realities. I also spent time living in a rural state in a small town. Many people are self employed…

Public assistance is paid by taxpayers – if the people on welfare file taxes they get MONEY BACK that doesn’t belong to them – it belongs to the taxpayers! Anyone on welfare should have their tax return money returned to the general fund or to pay for OUR SSI pot of money that is missing. And further, to be on welfare should be short term until someone is on their feet – and that person should be actively looking for work or getting a job. They cannot stay entitled generation after generation.

    • Ginger Kitty says

      November 11, 2016 at 7:32 pm

Please don’t judge people so harshly. A lot of tax-paying workers have a legitimate need for assistance because the jobs available right now in a lot of rural areas don’t pay enough to live on.

I have known a lot of people on public assistance. Many of them signed up after unexpectedly hitting hard times. Guess what they did prior to that: worked. That means that they were taxpayers. To break this down further, they put into the system, too, and they used it for its intended purpose.

I realize that it’s a lot easier to just perpetuate the stereotype of the high school drop out who had 12 babies and never worked a day in her life, but that is not the real face of the average…

    • Holly8008Wells says

      November 11, 2016 at 10:52 pm

As well, a little bit of research will reveal that the government dips into SSI to help fund other projects for which they don’t have enough money. That’s the real problem.

I’m not judging people. Live the way you choose. If you pay more than you receive, you have a right to vote. If you take more than you give- you give up that right. Getting WIC or a power company assistance because you can’t make ends meet after working hard and earning pay is NOT ?what I’m talking about. That’s not why immigrants cross the border without proper documentation. They actually help to keep the prices low in the grocery stores. If the workers were actually paid above the table, and at the proper minimum wage, we would see a drastic uptick in produce prices.

    • lobsterbabe says

      November 14, 2016 at 8:53 am

True. But many also receive welfare benefits while working under the table, so the combination of their income and welfare equals more than a lot of college educated annual salaries. If everyones income was documented and contributing to taxes, and were not able to claim welfare benifits by working under the table, our taxes could be lowered. It is estimated that $113 billion a year is spent on welfare and a majority of that is on illegal immigrants. In my line of work I see welfare fraud on a…

I’m referring to folks that receive cash, food, and housing but have never earned enough income to pay IN to those benefits. This idea isn’t neatly wrapped and ready for a congressional vote. If you’ve always worked and hit hard times, that’s different. Perhaps if you’ve paid in more than you’ve ever received, you keep your vote. In any event, vote in the right folks when you can and you’d get your vote back when your on your feet.
