Mainstreaming Her

[Blind Gossip] This singer and this actor are now broken up, but the truth about their super high-profile relationship is going to bowl you over!

A music industry insider told us how the relationship was structured.

This was all play-acting. The original plan was to find a tall, dark, handsome actor who could play the role of Sean to her Madonna. [The Actor] was a good physical choice, but he didn’t really fit the bad boy role.

So she decided that what he could help her with was expanding beyond her current fan base. She had gotten a little bored with the whole weirdo image and fan base. She decided he could help her look more mainstream. She wanted to move to “90% classy/10% weird” (to hang on to those old fans).

She would gradually look and dress and act more “normal” around him and put out more mainstream music and attract a more mainstream fan base.  In return, she would help him raise his profile as an actor.  It was a good gig for him. The engagement was part of that, but he was never going to marry her. NEVER.

If you are wondering why they broke up, this provides some insight.

She was always very controlling and thin-skinned. They were friends, but it got on his nerves that she treated him like she was his boss.

He was supposed to play a big role in the new album. She was going to say that he inspired her to create new music, inspired her image change, inspired the album name, etc. (All part of “mainstreaming” her). He was the star of the video. She got controlling and yelled at him a few times and he literally walked off the set and didn’t come back. They had to scrap all the video of him and make up some new backstory about her and the album.

She is not happy that he didn’t stick around for the album release. She really wants him to show up for [her next gig]. Not sure if he will.

    Optional: I do think he helped normalize her. I’m not sure if she helped his image as much. My first thought when I heard that they were together was to wonder if he was bi or gay. That’s a turn on for me, but I can imagine that not working so well with the kind of people who love Severide’s hypersexuality on Chicago Fire. I also think the media diminished his accomplishments to make him out to be a boy toy.

    I had no thought on their relationship just knew they were reported to be together. I don’t really follow either of themy but I like her music. I think she would have eventually tamed regardless…there are only so many times you can get away with being outrageous before it can become boring and expected.

    They did seem a bit mismatched in terms of personality but I never thought they were fake. I think he did make her seem more ‘mainstream’ but not sure that’s translated to more overall success. Seems she lost some of her very strong fanbase with that transition

      I think they got along when they got along, but stayed in their separate corners when there was trouble. Five years does include a break (sometime around her drug relapse period) and him having to be in Chicago 7 months out of the year, regardless of whether she’s on tour, writing an album or acting in something wherever. So, I can see them having being committed partners, but not totally exclusive out of geographic necessity, otherwise they never would have made it.

    Gaga certainly helped Taylor’s career and recognition factor, but Kinney is a rather blah person and mediocre actor if not wrapped in a very handsome package. He was merely eye and arm candy for Gaga in media situations. Taylor Kinney couldn’t inspire grass to grow in Springtime. BLAND! He’s the ONLY one who benefited from their pairing. Mainstream or “monsters” it was ALWAYS only about Gaga.

      While Taylor isn’t a brilliant actor, he has his charm and has had a following long before Gaga. He was also the lead of a network ensemble series before Gaga, and has become the linchpin of a franchise since then. I felt sorry that he had to constantly field questions about Gaga getting him work with Ryan Murphy, when he is doing 22-26 episodes with action a year, plus the occasional movie. Even the most supportive person would start to feel insulted.
