I Am The Production

July 13, 2017 Blind Gossip

[Blind Gossip] This actress was absolutely positive that she was going to receive an Emmy nomination for her performance. The production got good reviews, and she played the lead, so her confidence was well-founded.

She didn’t get nominated.

She was saying something to the effect of, “I don’t get it! What happened? The production gets nominated but I don’t? I’m the lead. I AM the production!” She might play the race card (or have someone else do it for her) if she stays mad enough about it.

I don’t watch a lot of these shows, so I don’t know who stars in what productions.

“Play the race card” usually pertains to African Americans, so I know the actress is black.

IDK, I give up. I see Viola Davis and Tracie Ellis Ross were nominated.

And Empire wasn’t nominated, so it’s not Taraji. This story is about the show or TV movie being nominated and not the actress. Learn to read and comprehend people.

Insecure wasn’t nominated, so it’s not Issa.

An interesting story does not an award make…

I watched this movie specifically to see Oprah. I was surprised that during the whole movie that the character she played was buried under Oprah trying to play the character. I kept watching to see if the portrayal ever rose above a 2D stereotype, but it never seemed to get there.

Nothing to do with race in this particular circumstance.

if this is Oprah, it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with her HUGE ego! I used to love her, but then she lost her humble attitude and became sort of a person who felt like she was special and entitled. Part of her appeal for me early-on was that she seemed so normal and could relate to all of us normal folk. That went away and that just ruined her for me.

I think this has to be Oprah for “Henrietta Lacks”. It was a pretty good movie, but it seems that there may be Oprah fatigue in Hollywood. She gave her self that campy scenery chewing role in “The Butler” a few years ago and didn’t get nominated.
No, don’t play the race card. The movie was nominated and well received. And told an important story most have never heard. If you have a loved one who has survived cancer, you can thank Henrietta Lacks.

    • typicalsquare says

      July 14, 2017 at 5:54 am

I agree, the way the blind is worded {production over series , get ‘someone else’ to play the card} it is Oprah.
I don’t think Oprah will ‘play the race card’, but she should. She should because precisely what you pointed out: if you have a loved one who has survived cancer, you can thank Henrietta Lacks.

  26. katekatekate says

The lead of Scandal, whatever her name is. She can’t act, unless bugging your eyes out and screaming and crying in every scenes counts as acting.

    • itstarapagain says

      July 17, 2017 at 12:40 pm

Dear God you’re describing Leslie Jones of SNL too except Leslie couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. And her one dimensional schtick of screaming at people is old and tired.

Unfortunately, I was shocked beyond belief when reading that she DID get a nom for supporting actress in a comedy! For that loud obnoxious “work” on SNL! So standards have fallen so low for nominations that talent is not required.

One of the richest, most successful, most powerful women in show-biz wants to play the Race card?? Oh puleez….

So you’re not fawned over every minute of every day by everyone. Get over it.

A nice gazillion dollar vacation to anywhere in the world ( which the plebs could not even fathom ) will make you feel better. Take a shoulder or two to cry on.

    • annabelle77 says

      July 13, 2017 at 6:15 pm

Exactly. This is why “the race card” has lost any meaning. No one should be “using it”simply because they didn’t get what they wanted. Plenty of white people don’t get nominated. They have to suck it up and deal with it, and so should Oprah. Grow up!

    Oprah

Optional: I understand the frustration given that no POC were nominated in the lead actress in a limited series/movie with there being plenty of options, but I feel like pulling the race card will only draw criticism, and won’t necessarily change anything. Especially considering the representation in almost all other actress categories. Sometimes it’s best to just cut your losses, be proud of your performance, and move on

Oprah. I don’t think she should play the race card because that is not her style. She should play the “Jealous Card”. She doesn’t get nominations because she people are Jealous of her success. She didn’t get a nomination for “The Butler” and now she didn’t get one for “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”. Hollywood never seldom gives the big awards to the most popular television shows or movies. However if she did play the race card “I will not disagree” because in…
