During a recent episode of the reality show Growing Up Hip Hop, Janet Jackson’s first husband, James DeBarge (of the group El DeBarge) confessed to his daughter, Krissy DeBarge, that she has a half-sister. He said that the half-sister is the daughter that James DeBarge had with Janet Jackson many years ago!

James DeBarge says, “I’m tired of the secrecy. I’m tired of the truth not coming forth and of people being a coward when it comes to it. And I thought it was wise for me to speak out now because it needs to be addressed. To be honest with you, I didn’t know. I was under the impression that there was no baby. I wanted to believe it’s not true. But it is.”

James DeBarge and Janet Jackson were married in 1984. The marriage was annulled in 1985. We believe that the child was born in 1985 or 1986, which would make her approximately 30 years old now.

Supposedly, James DeBarge is now in touch with his first daughter and she calls him Papa.

Janet Jackson now says that she is “pregnant” with her “first” child. Lots of quotation marks there.

    In my family it’s typical to have kids in your 40s, without medical intervention (I was one of the babies, so was my dad), so I’m not going to assume it’s a fake pregnancy. It seemed like they were implying this was not Janet’s first child, in which case, how diminishing for the actual first kid. Can’t feel good for your parent to pretend you don’t exist.

    She may well be prego by IVF (It’s not unheard of–remember the lady who carried her daughter’s baby?), but it’s not her first child; she had one back in the day with (was it her first husband Soandso DeBarge or a boyfriend, I forget). The child was raised by her sister.

    If someone wants to be a mother and has means to raise their child, why not? I think Tyra and Lucy Liu just had a babies via surrogates as well. Time is not on the side of women when it comes to having kids. Lots of celebrities don’t because they are either older , have fertility problems or doing want to ruin their bodies because it’s how they make their income

Although it is possible to be pregnant at 50, she would be a high risk pregnancy not only for herself, but the child and potential genetic complications.
